I Need Your Help

Hi Everyone!!

It seems like I have been away from blogging for WAY TOO long and I really miss all of you! It feels really good to be writing at this very moment. So much has happened in the last 2 years and I can't wait to begin sharing with all of you again.

I am working on putting together a FREE tutorial series to help Teachers Pay Teachers sellers with product creation and I would love to hear your thoughts on what tutorials would be most helpful to all of you.

There is no much content out there now and a plethora of videos and blog posts specifically geared to help new sellers, so I would like to focus on content that is fresh and would be most helpful.

Please respond in the comments below and let me know what specific content you would like to learn when it comes to creating digital products. Be as specific as you like. I really want the free tutorials to be helpful.

Also... don't feel shy if you think your question is "stupid".. chances are, there are many out there who might need help in the same area.

TpT Clipart Tribe Presents: Franken-Doodle-Stein Halloween Blog Hop

This past week, 12 INCREDIBLE artists from the TpT Clipart Tribe came together to create something absolutely amazing!! For the first time, we brought our skills and artistic styles together and each artist was allowed to add a unique piece to create our very own Franken{doodle}stein.

This project began with a simple discussion and turned into an amazing collaborative piece of art.  I can't tell you how proud I am to be a part of this incredibly talented bunch! Starting with the head as our driving force, each artist was allowed to add a piece of their choosing. Because each of us had complete control over what we added to the image, we were all so excited to see what each artist would come up with next as the image evolved. Let's all take a moment to celebrate and thank the creativity and styles of the artists who spend countless hours creating high resolution graphics to help and inspire you to create amazing teaching resources and crafts. Below you might discover some new artists as well as a few familiar ones that helped to put this entire project together.

As you watch the transformation come alive, please take time to visit each of the artists' shops/blogs listed below. We all have put together a very special "treat" as a way to show how thankful we are for your continued support!!

Not only will all of our TpT shops be discounted this week, but we also have some special treats for you to download from our individual TpT shops and/or blog posts linked below. Each piece of our Frankendoodlestein has been formatted by Sarah Pecorino in POSTER size for you to download, print, and assemble to display in your homes or classrooms this week (See the end of the post for directions and pictures of how to assemble a poster-sized Frankendoodlestein!!!

Now without further Adieu..... I present to you, our Frankendoodlestein!!

Click the image below to download the head and then hop on over to Sarah's blog to grab the next piece!!

This entire project came about through some fun discussion between several of us artists in the TpT Clipart Tribe group. I had this fantastic idea to do a collaborative Frankenstein and 11 other artists seemed to really like the idea, so we made it happen. That's what happens when people collaborate and support one another and I could not be more blessed to have so many creative friends to turn to for support and laugh with. We truly had so much fun with this project!!

I started out with a quick sketch in Photoshop, added my illustrative flair and then sent my piece off to the next amazing artist and watch what she would add. Here is my before sketch next to my finished art. I was originally going to go with a frown to make him grumpy, but later decided he needed to be a happy Franken-Doodle. The reason I did his head so large at the top was to leave room for text and create something special you all can use in your classrooms or at home with your kids to create some fun and spooky stories.

If you are interested in learning how to create your own clip art images, this is the last week to sign up for my self-paced video e-course - Clip Art 101: From Start to Finish at $75 off!!! Sign up before October 31st to get the discount and and join me this January as I take you on a journey to learn how to transform your sketches into unique digital art!! Click the link above to find out more about my video course!!  Scroll down to the end of this post to grab an extra fun freebie for you to enjoy! I hope you all have a happy and safe week!

PRINTING TIPS...
Here is a completed Poster-Sized Franken-Doodle-Stein all printed, cut and put together. I have to say that I would not recommend having small children cut this out as this was quite tedious, but it makes for a great window or door decor for your home or classroom. The finished size is 19 inches by about 19 inches. Not too big and not too small...

I decided to cut out the mad scientist machine first, since it prints on three pages. I ended up scrapping page 2 and re-printing it so I could leave a border on the top and bottom so that the image would fit seamlessly when glued together.  I printed all three pages and I left a little bit of a white border on the top and bottom of page three. Once finished cutting them out, pages 1 and 2 fit seamlessly on top of the second page using the extra bit of paper. I apologize for the image quality below.... I used my phone to take a quick photo and the lighting in my office was terrible... yikes.  Hopefully, you get the idea and I can save you a little time.
You do not need to leave any white space on the other pieces because they all are created to overlap one another.  Just an FYI.... the piece with the arm and kitty are the most tedious to cut out... I highly suggest you begin with that piece so the remaining pieces seem easy..haha

As an added bonus gift, my newest hand-painted digital papers will be FREE all week long!! Get them while they're free and please remember to leave feedback...
Click the image below to download these.

Hop on over to Sarah's blog to grab the next piece and enjoy an extra special treat she created just for you!!

Information about Copyright & Free Clipart Sites Offering Instant Downloads

Hi Everyone!!

I am writing a post because I received a Google notification about a site that was offering my clipart images as free downloads directly from their site. My goal with this post is to help make caution you about sites like these - as there are probably hundreds or even thousands out there - and to show you how you too can set up to receive Google notifications for information posted about you when it is published online.

Below is a screenshot of the notification I received in my inbox. I would not have received a notification had the guilty site not mentioned my name in the title. When I visited the site, I found that even more of my images were being offered as free digital downloads directly from the site and did not even include my name.  I will include the site address at the end of this post for those of you who would like to check to see if your art is also being given away for free.

Because the site is very difficult to search through. I conducted an advanced Google search to look specifically for the images that were hosted on the site.

To conduct an advanced search through Google go to: http://www.google.com/advanced_image_search

This is the screen that you will see once you are on the advanced search options

I then completed the fields for "all these words" and "site or domain"
Once those two fields were filled in, I clicked on the blue button titled, Advanced Search. Once I did, all of the images from the site appeared in the browser. If you scroll over an image, you will see that the image is linked to the site that I typed into the advanced search options above.

The image below shows the address where the image has been published. The image itself clearly does not belong to the site. I used Phillip Martin's image because he is very popular and quite well-known among teachers. I added the text on the screenshot.

Because this site was offering free images from artists I am quite familiar with, I decided to notify a few of the artists about the site.

I then send a cease and desist letter to the site through their "contact us" link for all of the images I found that were mine. Because the site did not include any information about who owns the site, I decided to look up the domain information to try and identify the site owner in order to contact the person directly.

To do this, I used the domain look-up tool at the whois server. Click the image below to visit the site. It is a good one to bookmark and save. (http://whois.domaintools.com/)
I typed in the domain of the site I wanted to look up and I was given a lot of information pertaining to the site. The information you will need to pay close attention to is:
  • Registrant Name:
  • Address 1:
  • Address 2:
  • Country:
  • Phone Numbers:
  • Time Zone:
  • Registrant Email Address:
  • Domain Booked on:
  • Domain Expires on:
  • Name Server 1:
  • Name Server 2:
  • IP Address:
When the information was generated by the site, I noticed something strange about the details. The site owner's name and personal information was missing!! Instead, there was a company called, WHOIS Guard, Inc listed whenever there should have been information pertaining to the owner of the domain. Most might have given up, thinking that because the owner of the domain has protected his/her personal information, that nothing could be done.... WRONG....

You can contact the site protecting the information directly. I looked up WhoisGuard, inc and eventually found the following link http://suespammers.net/tag/whoisguard-review/. It took me less than a minute to find a way to contact this company.

I clicked on the "contact" link located at the top of the page and completed the form. I included as much information as possible, but failed to include the actual link to the site I was wanting them to look into. I did this to ensure that the company would contact me back and ask. I figured that if they did not email me to ask me for the site address I was referring to, then I would need to take further action elsewhere.

No need.. they responded to my message two hours after I submitted it. They requested the site address. I not only included the site address, but I also included all of the domain information I found on the site. I also included a list of the artists and/or companies I contacted to let them know that the site was offering instant downloads of their images for free from their site, and mostly without a link or credit to the artist of the image.

Some include:
Microsoft.com
Phillip Gary Martin
Scrappin' Doodles

and many more from Teachers Pay Teachers. Some of the clipart being offered could be found on the web for free and other items were paid clipart sets.

This afternoon I received another email from them stating that their company does not actually host the site. They did include the information of the company that is currently hosting the site. I have yet to contact this company, but I will do so before the day is over. If you are also wanting to report this site, please use the following contact information and include the information listed below in your email to them:

Name: Digital Ocean

Click the image below to visit their contact page to open a ticket or to email them with your concerns about the domain listed at the bottom of this post.
You will need to locate the domain address at the bottom of this post and include the following information with your message about the domain:

For those of you who may have already downloaded images from the site OR are still thinking about downloading images from the site, there are some very important things you should be aware.

FIRST: If a website is offering FREE downloads of various images without including a fee or license information, chances are, they are violating copyright and you should not proceed to download anything from the site. Instead, immediately report the site as copyright infringement or notify familiar artists they their work is being offered from the site and include the link.

Most artists require that anyone using the images in free or paid products and/or resources include a copyright link and credit within the file. If you choose to download images from a site like this, that offers no information about the owner or copyright about the image, then you also are violating the copyright of that artists' work. If you can not find copyright information about the images, then there is no way for you to comply with the terms of use of that artist if you use the image in a free or paid resource.

Please do NOT download anything from this site or sites like it. Value the hard work of the original artist and your own integrity by refusing to bring traffic or contributing to the site by downloading the images.

If you would like to receive Google Alerts for things related to your site or images is posted on the web, follow the directions below:

Go to www.google.com/alerts or click the image below

Type the word, title or name that you would like to receive notifications for in the space provided next to the field titled, Search query. It is best to use only one word or title at a time. You can create several alerts.
Choose the options and type your email address at the bottom. Click on the button titled, "Create Alert" once you have completed the form and follow any other prompted directions to complete the process. You might need to log into your Google account or you might be asked whether you want to receive alerts through your phone.

Because I absolutely refuse to include a link to this site, I have included an image with the domain name. You can type the site address manually if you wish to visit the site.

I will continue to update all of you on the progress and information pertaining to the progress of this issue.
Thank you very much for visiting and I hope you gained a little more knowledge about copyright infringement and how to report copyright infringement online.

I would love to read your thoughts, input, or information you might be able to add to this... we can never have too much knowledge!!

Something NEW & a FREE Tip Sheet: Learn How to Secure PDF Files Using Adobe Acrobat in Just a Couple of Minutes!!

I don't want to brag or anything, but I am IN LOVE with my new new make-over!! It has taken me about 5 different looks and over 2 years to finally settle with a blog design I will keep for a long while!!

I have been very busy on other designs as well!! I have two that are in progress, three more finished and I am booked through the month of August of this year!! Holy cow.... I am feeling very blessed! I am not completely finished updating all of my blog pages, but if you scroll over the colored boxes above, and click on the Portfolio link, you will see the custom blog designs I have completed over the last year.

Each of my newest designs are completely unique to each blogger and their style. I am having so much fun being able to create so many different styles. I have noticed that yellows, grays, and teals are definitely the HOT colors this year!!

I hope you got a chance to visit the lovely ladies' blogs above!!  I only have two spots left open for this year and once they are reserved, I will close the form until 2015!! If you would like to get a Custom Blog Design this year, you can click HERE to complete the order form.

I also have a little tutorial tip for all of you Teachers Pay Teachers Sellers!! Over and over I get asked if converting a file to PDF is enough to protect copyrighted images and the content in digital products. The answer is.... NO.

Converting a file to PDF does not secure the file, the images, or the content. Also, the free Adobe Reader does not allow you to secure PDF's. In order to secure your files, you must own Adobe Acrobat or a similar product. Before you begin selling digital products on TpT that include copyrighted images, I highly suggest that you read through the terms of use thoroughly. Most artists, including myself, require that the PDF be secured when using commercial use graphics in your products.

If you already own a version of Adobe Acrobat, then this tip sheet might be very useful to you. I created this today very quickly to help out a seller who emailed me. I blocked out the name of the seller on the file, but I decided that I would share this little goodie. Some of you might already know how to secure your files and feel confident doing so; however, you can also grab this goodie as a resource to have on hand if and/or when someone asks you how to secure a PDF file.

In the tip sheet below, I am using the latest version of Adobe Acrobat X1 Pro; however, older versions are quite similar in terms of securing the files. Although this tip sheet was just thrown together in a bit of a rush, it will take you through the most basic steps in just a few minutes!

Enjoy this FREE Tip Sheet and consider yourself Tickled with Tech today.. haha
As always, thank you for stopping by and for your continued support!!

Well, apparently Blogger will not allow me to load the image in its original size, so here are the individual screenshots below... sorry about that everyone!!

I will work on putting together a nicer, more manageable tip sheet...

My Favorite Things, A Teacherpreneur Tip & the Art of Sitting, 13 Custom Blog Design Spots Left & A Gift for You!!!

I get many questions from people wanting to know what types of programs I use and what electronics I prefer, so today, I am going to show you one of my absolute favorite buys from Amazon.

My Favorite Keyboard!!

For the PC Lover
Click the images to link to the products

For the Mac Lover as well...

The MAC version includes several really cute colors, while the PC version only includes an all black or a mostly black with a white trim. I was sorely disappointed that Logitech did not offer the colored versions for PC, but I continue to keep checking. As soon as they do, I would LOVE to have the white one with the bright blue strip... very cute!!!

Here is a little video so you can see the keyboard I use...I have had it for about one year and I absolutely LOVE it!! It is very quiet and the keys are perfectly raised, which is nice for my wrists and fingers. I needed a thin keyboard that could fit on my desk while I was drawing with my Cintiq. My Cintiq is 24 inches and weighs close to 100lbs. Since it takes up most of the space on my desk in the vicinity that I am working in, I needed a light, thin keyboard that I could easily move or tuck away when I positioned my screen over my lap to draw. It was closer to $80.00 when I first purchased it, but now you can get it for around $60 and even less if you have Amazon Prime (which I do)!!

If you are worried about it charging, have no fears!! I ACCIDENTALLY stumbled upon a cool solution. The keyboard stays charged for a VERY long time (about 3 months); however, if I go a few days without sunlight, the power will reduce. If it gets under about 70% charged, the keyboard will begin to act funky and the typing speed will have a delay, which is super annoying (to say the least).

One rainy afternoon, I needed a little more light in my office, so I pulled out my little portable lamp. I think I picked this up at Office Max, but the ratings were terrible on Amazon, so I chose not to include the link to purchase this on Amazon. I have to say that I have had no problems with this light and I have had it for over a year now. The cool thing about it is that it will CHARGE the solar keyboard!!! I noticed that the power supply raised to 100% as soon as my light was pointing to the keyboard!! Needless to say, I was overly happy. Now, I can just plug in the mini light and point it at the keyboard any time the power gets low or just to give it a charge while I am away from my desk.  I linked the image below to the product on Office Max, but I am sure that any bright light lamp will do...

Now for a little tip from one Teacherpreneur to another...
Watch this quick clip and then keep reading below...
Well, I am very ashamed to admit that I spend anywhere from 12 or more hours a day in my office... SITTING!!! I do position my screen up high and will stand when I draw, but standing in one position can be terrible on my back... although, sitting in one position can be terrible for everything.
Although there is no way I could stop every 30 minutes to take a break to exercise, I have started setting a little clock every 2 hours to stop and take a break. I have to admit that the 2 hour increments has helped me to stay on task and finish each project/task quicker than usual. When the 2 hours is up, I get up, stretch, and take a nice walk with the dogs. When my little break is over, I feel refreshed and ready for another 2 hours of  productive work.
Don't totally make fun of me, but I use my bookmark timers that I had in my classroom when I taught Kinder. I could use my phone, but I would rather leave the phone free. I got a set of 48 of these bookmark timers with my Scholastic points when I taught kinder and always kept a few at home for my own kids. When I left that position, I left a great deal of the resources for the next teacher, but I had a few that were not being used at my house. Leave it to a former teacher to make use of anything and everything!! haha

A Confession
Hello, my name is Michelle and I am a Post-It Whore!! Yes, a Post-It Whore!!
My $3,000 Cintiq is now the home of my obsession and I keep a stack stuck to the empty space of the outside of the screen to write down ideas, remember things, or just to doodle while I am talking on the phone. I  believe that Wacom should build me a Cintiq that has built-in areas for Post-its and a small side drawer to keep my pen nibs in.... but they would have to give me the new model for free, because I could not afford another one... lol!!

P.S. They should have also included a built-in video cam!!! How did they NOT think of that?? I despise having to rest my video cam on the top ledge of my Cintiq, because I always seem to forget that it's there. Whenever I move my screen, the darn thing falls off.... This would have not been a problem if my desk fit the duel screens, but I can't stand clutter and having another screen just makes me feel too boxed up.

However, I LOVE my colorful Post-its!!!
Something New...
Despite my work load, I have made it a personal goal to add, at least, one new product a week to TpT (and my other online shops). I noticed that my sales were significantly dropping and decided to make some minor adjustments to my weekly goals and priorities. I mean, this is how I support my family, so any drops in sales is a drop in our only source of income at this time.... Now you might understand the urgency to adjust my weekly goals.. haha
Here is my newest Teacherpreneur set:  Meet my Happy Themed Create Your Own Digital Cover Set...
This one is really packed with goodies and perfect for Spring!! The Digital Papers can also be purchased separately, but I am not sure why anyone would want to do that.. LOL!!

Grab this set at my Teachers Pay Teachers shop
Grab this set at my Etsy Shop
I also recently updated my FREE Frames and Borders Set on Teachers Pay Teachers!! It was time!!

Despite having over 150,000 downloads to date, there are only a little over 500 ratings. I would love to dramatically increase that number and would appreciate your feedback if you have this freebie or plan to download it. I will continue to add more frames to the file each month until it hits the maximum file size for TpT.

Exciting News!!!
Last week, I let everyone know that I will only be taking 24 custom blog design orders this year and wanted to fill up the spots before the end of the month. So far, I have booked 11 Custom Blog Design and I still have 13 available spots. The custom blog design must be paid in advance, but this is to ensure that I can account for the schedule for the year and plan financially as well. I would love to have the remaining spots filled before the end of the month and I am not full up until the middle of March. Some booked spots for December 2014 and May 2014, so the months of March through December are pretty open at this point. My orders continue to come in and I have about 6 people who are waiting for their TpT payout to make the business investment in their blog design. I promise... you will not be disappointed you ordered early!!
If you would like to get your spot booked, please complete the form using the link below. Please know that the form is quite intensive with questions, but please only complete the areas that you can. If you are unsure what colors, fonts, or patterns you like.. don't worry.... leave it blank, because you are paying me to be creative for you!! I enjoy doing this and hope to work with more of you!! You DO NOT need to have a blog to order a custom blog design. If you want to order the custom blog design and have me help you set up a Blogger blog, leave that for me to do as well. It will not cost you extra.

 A Gift for You!!!

New Custom Blog Designs and Time to Reserve a Spot for an Exclusive Custom Blog Design (Only 21 Spots left)!!

2014 has already started out promising and I just hope to continue to grow and expand my business. I never really set major New Year resolutions, but instead, I set continuous small goals and continue to challenge myself to learn more and improve my skills.

Here are two new Custom Blog Designs that I am very proud of!! I had the honor of working with Dr. Jean this past month and she is such a pleasure to work with. I can't even begin to describe how talented and generous this amazing woman is!! Although, you all probably already know how amazing she is!! Here is a before and after of her blog deisgn.

I am having a blast designing blogs and I am continually learning more about myself as an artist and as a designer.  Click on Dr. Jean's new button below to check out her new site!!

And here is my VERY FIRST completed design for the new year!! Here is a before and after of Jen's new blog design.

You can check out my latest designs by visiting my Portfolio Pinterest board. Click HERE to check out more of the amazing bloggers I have been honored to design for.

This year, I will only be accepting 24 New Clients for Custom Blog Designs. I realize that this may not seem like many, but I have many goals that I need to accomplish this year in order to accommodate my growing business and to ensure that I can continue to support my family.  I like that my designs are exclusive and very unique. I take great pride in my work and the best reward is to know that I am helping amazing bloggers establish their brands and helping them to blossom with their own businesses.

So far, I have 3 Bloggers signed up...

1. Jennifer with

2. Denise with
Sunny Days in Second

and...

3. Amy with

3 Amazing bloggers and 3 opportunities to create something unique.  These three blogs should be finished over the next couple of weeks, although, my designs do take a bit longer than typical custom blog designs. I start each design completely from scratch, illustrate and create all of my own designs and then provide my clients with a personalized design and all of the patterns and illustrations to use exclusively. I will never replicate a custom design because part of my goal is helping my clients establish their names and businesses in this fast-growing online market.

Because one of my New Year's goals is to finish my blog and website re-design, I will need to limit the amount of custom work I am taking on. I will accept 21 20 more custom blog design orders  this year and I would like to get everyone scheduled and planned ahead of time.

If you would like to book your spot for a custom blog design, here is what you will need to do and expect.

The process always begins by completing my Custom Blog Design Order form. The form is pretty intense with questions, however, please fill it out to the best of your ability. Some like to be very thorough and others like to leave things open, especially if they are unsure of what they are wanting for their design.

With me as your personal designer, there are very few limitations of what I am able to do. One of my limitations at this point is that I ONLY design Blogger blogs. I am not taking custom orders for WordPress blogs at this time.

Once I receive the form, I will go through the options and send you an email to review all of the options or answer any initial questions you might have. I will then set the start date and send you a Paypal invoice for the full amount. I do require that the design be paid in full before I being the process of designing your blog. It is your commitment to me as your designer and allows me to adequately support my family. Because my designs are a business investment, I understand that some may not have the money to pay for the entire design at once. In this case, I will set up a payment plan with clients upon request.

Once the payment is made, I then will schedule a time to chat with each client on the phone. I believe that having this human interactions is vital to me, as your designer. It is also important for you to hear and visualize me as a real human being on the other end. It helps me to really get an idea of what your business and personal needs are and what direction I will need to focus on for each design. Plus, I am a talker and I LOVE getting the opportunity to chat with everyone I design for!! Once the phone conference is set, then your date will be set in stone and the fun will begin on your scheduled date.

Some designs take a few days, while others take a few weeks. The amount of time I take on a design really depends on the amount of detail required for each design. I never rush the process and I create a test blog site for each client, which allows them to see the design elements come together in real time and in a web format. A blog design does not look the same in a screenshot from my design program as it will online.

It is important to me that each client gets the opportunity to make  decisions based on what the blog will actually look like online, rather than forcing them to try and visualize this themselves. I am hired because I am the creative expert, so I do not want to ever place that responsibility or stress on any of my clients. I try to make the process fun and exciting, but I do expect that each client respect my own limitations and boundaries as well. My goal is to build a design that will reflect each client individually and meet both their personal and professional goals. This is much easier said than done and it takes a great deal of focused work hours to accomplish.

Once I have 12 New Clients signed up, I will close the form so that I can work on some personal business goals and not become overwhelmed with orders. My client list has been quickly growing and building and I enjoy getting the opportunity to work with so many unique people!!! My inspiration from each design is pulled and formed by each of my clients, so the end result is a synonymous mix of my art and my clients' vision. Investing in a custom blog design will be one the most important investments if you plan to create a name and a business for yourself. It is also a  tax write-off!

I hope to get an opportunity to work YOU!!!

If you would like to reserve a spot to hire me as your personal designer for an exclusive blog design, then click the image below to complete the form and hold your spot!! Again, once the remaining 21 spots are booked, the form will be inactive until next year.
