17 Fun Life Lessons to Teach Children Using Poetry from Where the Sidewalk Ends by Shel Silverstein

Last week, my son was out of school due to STREP and now it seems as though I have also come down with a case of "something" that I do not feel worthy of a Dr. visit....YET!!

Yesterday, I was so sick that I neglected all of my responsibilities and decided to binge watch Wicked Tuna on Netflix. Not a bad season to sleep to... haha

I made a commitment to myself to write three blog posts this week and I have not published one as of yet. Well... one.... if you count this as my first for this week.

Instead of trying to attempt a tutorial of any kind, I decided to do something a little more fun!!

While teaching Kindergarten, I LOVED reading to my kiddos! I am a bit of a weirdo and I can not read a book without adding voices and character... it is just who I am.. I simply cannot control where my mind decides to go when I am reading from a book.

I especially loved reading the Junie B. Jones series and anything written by Shel Silverstien, who has remained my favorite (even above Dr. Seuss) since I was a child. My favorite children's book by Sylverstein is The Giving Tree. Actually, it might just be my favorite children's book overall. I do, however, enjoy reading his poetry because it makes me laugh.. even if I am in a really stinky mood.

Since I am all sickish and feeling icky and S-L-O-W, I thought I would share some of my favorite Shel Silverstein poems that get me giggling!!

Here are my top 20 Shel Silverstein poems for teaching fun life lessons to kids...

I have included the page numbers to all of the poems written by Shel Silverstein in Where the Sidewalk Ends (WTSE),  Copyright 1974 Evil Eye Music, Inc. Images are all taken from my copy of  Where the Sidewalk Ends by Shel Silverstein - a gift from a special baby-sitter that cherished all of these years. Thank you LAURA!!

Hi Everyone!!

While trying to keep up with the demands of custom blog designs, graphic design orders, web design orders, and keeping myself sane (when I can), I like to try to complete a few new clipart sets every month to keep the shops up to date!!

I have been getting a TON of emails and messages from so many of you who are loving the doodle illustrations in the new Hello Planner, so I thought I would start a series of sets that will fit the theme and you will be able to use in many ways!!

My new camera doodles include three styles in every color. There is one with a white fill, one with a transparent lens and one with a black lens. All are hand-painted digitally and ready for you to use in your amazing products on TpT!! I created a version with a transparent lens to be used as frames!!!

Here is a little sample I threw together from each of the camera frame styles...
The doodle camera with the heart is from Set #1 and the one without is from Set #2

TpT Feature News, H-E-L-L-O Business Planner & a Giveaway!!!

Thank you to all of you who were as excited as I was this weekend about my TpT feature!! You all are amazing and I can't tell you how blessed I felt from all of your messages! I also want to thank my FB Wally group for helping me pic out a photo to use... This was was the winner and I am glad I used it. I seriously need to have professional photos taken, because getting just this one picture took me several hours!! I did not have time to edit the photo and chose to use it as is... blemishes and freckles in all. I figured I'd post what I actually look like. This way, if you ever see me in person, you aren't shocked.. haha!!

I love that we can all celebrate each other's successes and triumphs! Being featured was such a special treat and no one in my house could understand my excitement..haha  I was thankful to have you all to celebrate with me!!

That's ME (below)!! When I initially got the email I was asked to write a brief intro on the products I was featuring; however, I had no idea that would end up under my name.. I wish I had written something more clever about myself.. hahaha....

I believe I initially announced that I would be creating a business planner about 6 months ago....
This is how the project began... in my SMASH book and just a bunch of ideas coming together...

Once you purchase the planner, you will download a zipped file containing over 200 custom pages to play with!!

Save your file and unzip or extract the files. Once you extract the files, your folders should look a little something like this...minus the background striped.
Spend some time looking through the folders and choosing the pages and page styles that will work best for you, then decide how you will want to organize those pages. For instance, if you click on the NOTES folder, you will see 12 separate PDF files. Each file is a separate note page style. Choose the one that fits your personality.. or print a few pages of each one..

That's what makes this planner so unique... you can choose the pages and styles that you like, organize and print them in any order and then assemble your planner to use!! It does take some time to organize and print the pages; however, I believe you will be just as happy as I am once you have it all prepared.

Here are a few pics of my Planner coming together...

I chose to use my handy dandy binding machine!! I have the Fellows Star 150, which I absolutely LOVE!! It does not include directions; however, it is pretty basic and you can always email me if you can't figure out how to use the binding machine.

I printed out my cover page and my dividers using bright white cardstock paper, which has worked out quite nicely. I also

I also used the Fellows clear binding covers as the first and last pages of each of my sections. I chose to bind my planner sections separately, so I can just use the section I need when I need it... and not have a giant binder with me at all times.

I am not using my Amazon affiliate link for these items. I am sharing them with you, so you can see exactly what I used to put my planner together.

If you will be using a 3-ring binder, Shoplet has some great label tabs dividers that would be great for this project. I recently got a couple of free packs to try out, but I used them for the kids for school because I chose to use the binding machine for this project. I opted out for the Fellows blank divider tabs that come without hole punches.

Here are the two from Shoplet that I had the honor of using for the kids for school. The stickers that come with the sets are super easy to use with the computer and easy to attach as well.

They also have a video to show you how to apply the tabs to the dividers. They have clear and colored tabs and both are great quality and super easy to use. This way, you can divide your sections using clean dividers and tabs with cute fonts!! ha!!

Here is pic of my mess planner coming together in the living room!! I am super picky and it took me a bit longer to figure out how I wanted to organize all of my pages in a way that would work best for everyday use. Some of the info on the pages is repetitive info in different sections, so I wanted to make sure I could record the stats and earnings in one section and then transfer that data to the other binder at the end of each week. This works best for my own situation and what I do because my income changes daily and I get new requests on a daily basis. I never have a way to truly set a budget for the month; however, that is one of my goals for this year... to get to a point in my business where I can plan out a monthly budget and start putting money in savings again. This has been one of my biggest challenges being self-employed... that and TAXES!!! I won't even get started on how terrible I am trying to organize my tax info.
When all of the pages were printed and bound, I ended up with 7 individual binders. I could have probably broken them easily into 10, but I was getting tired.... haha!!

The one with the cover photo is my business finances binder.. and the thickest binder of the bunch.
You could even choose to use the monthly dividers and organize a smaller binder for each month with enough prints to cover everything for one entire month. I think I might actually do this next time or maybe even for next month. I think having one binder per month will make it much easier for me to organize and find the information I need when I need it, but for now, this will do just fine!!

Here is an example of how I can use the monthly dividers to organize my information by month. I can choose to do it in two styles.. haha. Personally, I like the white with the colored text the best... although, the colored dividers with white text does print quite nicely. One thing you can count on from me is that I make sure to test print everything before offering it as a product. There was a lot of trial and error getting this planner just right!!

Here are the options by topic

I also included blank dividers in an editable PDF template...and in every color. I will be adding a PowerPoint version to make it easier for all of you to edit the text and add font styles that fit your own style and personality.

Here is an example of how what I included for my daily schedule and how I printed and organized the pages to meet my needs.

Below is an image of the section divider. I placed my Daily Schedule pages within my Monthly Planner, which has worked out nicely so far.
I sectioned out my daily schedule week by week for one month. At the beginning of each weekly section, I have the weekly planner page at the top. This way, I can set my own personal goals and plan for the week ahead. I used the Weekly planner with the titles pre-filled, but I did include a version without the pre-typed titles. This way, you can add whatever is important for you each week.
Turn the page.... I placed my hours log on the left hand side and my Daily Schedule page on the right hand side. Next time, I will definitely switch this around. I am left handed and I prefer to work from left to right.. I think the more I use the planner, the better I can organize it to meet my needs... which is what makes this planner so awesome! I did a lot of research before and during the process of putting this planner together and one thing I really struggled with was figuring out how I was going to organize the pages within the file in a way that would work for everyone. The only solution to this was to create a separate PDF for each custom page and allow all of you to choose how to organize and print out your pages.
Here is the Hours log page that you can see a glimpse of in the image above, but it is taken on the right side to make it easier for you to see up close...
One thing that has been very important to me while trying to improve my time management and raise my income level has been to keep track of my hours. This is SOOOO important to do. When I started keeping better track of my hours, I began to really sort through and wean out the things that wasted time. It also helps me to price my products effectively. I want to offer my products at an affordable price, but it is also my responsibility as a business owner to make sure that I am actually making a profit from the projects I invest my time in. I believe that this will continue to improve as I make staying organized a daily habit.

Now... I have a treat for ALL of you!! I am going to offer my Hello Planner for free to ONE lucky follower!! Think about the RESULTS: A Little Motivation to Get You Focused this Week!!

The quote above is my new motto for this month! Whatever goals you are trying to achieve in your own personal or professional lives, think about the RESULTS you want in order to push through the times it gets tough.

I have been doing PiYo fitness now for a little over a month, and one thing the instructor, Chalene Johnson, continues to reiterate throughout each workout is to think about the results you want to get...
For me, this is quite motivating to hear.

I have sweat dripping down my face and chest, my legs no longer have any feeling whatsoever, and the thought of having to stretch one leg one more time in the air seems impossible....

she says,
"You can DO IT... just think about the results you want to get and push yourself harder"

At this point, I grit my teeth, take a deep breath, quickly try to swipe my face on the towel below me and brace myself for one more push! It feels so good to push through and MAKE IT!!

Although fitness and getting healthy has been my #1 goal lately, I have many other goals I am pushing towards as well. I started thinking about this motto and how important it is that we have an objective for every goal we set for ourselves and we think about that objective to push ourselves harder when pushing seems nearly impossible.

We are all battling something and we all are working towards some definition of personal success or accomplishment. The only competition we truly have is ourselves and positive self talk can make such a huge difference during our journey and ultimately reaching the goals we set for ourselves.

I challenge you all think about the result you want to achieve (for any area of your life) and set three task goals for yourself this week that will help push you a little bit closer to where you want to be down the road.

Make sure these three goals are attainable and get you closer to the results you want (whatever those results may be). If you are brave enough.... feel free to share a task goal you set for yourself this week and how that goal will help you get one step closer to your ultimate goal... and don't forget to think about the results you want to achieve while you are working towards meeting those smaller goals.

I hope you are all blessed this week and get a few steps closer to achieving the goals you set for yourselves. If, at any time, meeting the smaller task goals gets tough... just think about the results you want and push yourselves a little harder. It will be worth it in the long run!!

August Currently!! AND LAST DAY to get EDUCENTS BACK TO SCHOOL BLOWOUT DEALS!!

I am linking up with Farley's monthly currently!!
1. LISTENING: Silence... I have a great deal of work on my to-do list and my kids and husband have given me a day of silence to get caught up... and here I am... not working on my to-do list, but instead, linking up with the monthly currently (which is equally important..haha).

2. LOVING: OKAY!! So I will admit that I secretly LOVE taking the kids shopping for their school supplies because I like to hunt out little treasures I can use myself.... I don't know why... whether it is from my teaching days or whether or not I just have an innate sickness... but I LOVE new office supplies!!
Aren't these the cutest??!! And the best part... they match my Hello Planner style!! I tried to find a link online, but it seems as though you can not purchase these online through Target or elsewhere... It is a GOOD thing I bought the whole LOT of them while I was there!! They only had four sets left and I loved them so much that I had to have them all... However, while at another Target last night, the shelf was fully stocked!! You are still in luck if these are something you have to have!!

3. THINKING: I have been working out for 30 days, eating healthy and now I am trying to get organized!! Just to give you an idea of how bad my piles have become... I had to actually clear the desk just to take the image of the folders above for you... here are the piles that are now on the floor..

From left to right... this is what the piles are....

*Cleaning wipes on top of my art books

*This pile consists of a little bit of everything that has not been organized, but just keeps building up

*The other half of the "little bit of everything" that is slowly building and overwhelms my brain each time I look at it. I am sure there is something important in there...

*Last... this is my tax pile.... something I still need to do.. I have until October

I know.. I seriously need to hire an assistant, but until I can get myself organized, I don't think I would be ready to have an assistant.. haha

It is a goal for this week... Admitting I have a problem and planning to do something about it is the first step towards recovery.. so I've been told...

4/5. WANTING/NEEDING: I am both wanting and needing a new car desperately. Our car did not pass smog and we have been driving this jet engine sounding Landrover for a couple of years now... it is time to get a new one, but I need to get my finances in order before I can determine what we can afford...  I would rather purchase a vehicle outright, but it seems that people are wanting WAY too much for old cars these days.... I like that we do not have a monthly payment, but I am not sure how much longer this car is going to last...

I keep praying that God will bless us when the time is right.. and I know He will. We were blessed with this one a couple of years ago when we did not even have a car. Our HVAC business was S-L-O-W and we were living off my my income alone.. which was not even close to luxurious, but time will pass and sometimes you have money and sometimes you don't.... we mostly don't, but we are alive, healthy, and able to provide for our kids to the best of our ability.. I can't complain... PLUS.. I did buy more file folders when I really didn't NEED them.... UGH!!!

My kids start school this WEEK PEOPLE!!! SERIOUSLY??!! Where did the summer go?? Working form home really does make the summer seem obsolete, but I am happy that my kids will be back on a schedule again.. it will be nice and motivation for me to get organized and stay on task. My daughter does not have to start school until TUESDAY (which she keeps bragging about to her brother) because she is a SENIOR in high school this year!!  My kids are my greatest accomplishment and I am so proud to be a mom!! I feel honored watching the both of them grow, mature and become their own amazing selves!!

Well, that is all I have to say  write about for this currently... until next month my friends!! I hope you are all setting goals and finding your amazing selves as well!!

Have a WONDERFUL WEEKEND EVERYONE!!
