Thoughts, Ant Farm & Funnies, Tutorial & Freebies...& Thanks

This is the the Post that Never Ends....it goes on and on my friends...

OMGOSH!  Am I posting a post at a normal hour???? Why YES... YES I AM...
My hubs had to work early this morning so I was up at the crack of dawn (okay, well 7am is still early...hahaha). I went to bed around 1am this morning, which is pretty darn early for me. I decided that I want to share some random and funny pictures, get your opinion about this ant farm I am trying to figure out,  walk (okay...read) you through a small tutorial: How to add the linky signature to comments, and post a few freebies.    I am also going to be putting a secondary preview page in every clip art collection that will display all of the graphics in each set. I received a sweet suggestion yesterday and I thought it was a wonderful idea.

I will also be putting together a zipped file of freebies on TPT each month. The monthly freebie files will include all of the freebies from my blog posts for that month in one lovely zipped file (-; This way, those of you who love the freebies don't have to go through each and every post to find them; however, you will have to wait until the end of each month to download the entire set (-;

Yesterday's controversial post about...Dr. "Lord Voldemort" got me thinking about copyright and stupid patents. Do any of you ever watch that show, Shark Tank? There was actually someone who got a patent for the idea of placing a wire in clothing!!! How can someone patent a pocket - ???  I bet there are TONS of ridiculous patents and copyright shenanigans out there...

It makes me think of our lovely "dumb driver" law here in AZ. The thing about Dr. "Lord Voldemort" is really quite silly since the illustrations are not owned by the publisher, but instead, Dr "Lord Voldemort's" wife (after his passing). They should allow someone to create graphics that teachers can use...

OH FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THINGS NORMAL...LOL!

well, that is all I have to say about that matter anywho... On to something more important...

MY WEIRD ANT FARM...
Hmmm - it glows - that's always a plus..hehehe

We bought our son an ant farm recently and ordered the ants. The ants came and now the thingy is fogging up!!! Has anyone else had an ant farm before??? For one, this gel stuff is supposed to feed the ants and provide them with a home, but they just seem to be eating through the bottom of it... The gel stuff shrunk and  separated from the sides of the case, so the ants just make their way around the outside...and not through the gel (strange). Here are some pics, so you can hopefully tell me what I am doing wrong... I can't believe how giant and aggressive these ants are...and they're being mailed out to children??? Hopefully these ants don't get out and multiply...

Before the ants...notice how the gel has shrunk and there is a space along the perimeter of the gel???

About a minute later...the farm with the ants...holy cow those ants are GIANT and mean!
UMMM?? I don't think the ants are supposed to cruise the perimeter of the gel...but what do I know...I am not an ant farm guy...

Okay...the next few pictures is me trying to get the best angle so you can see the steam (fog) on the inside after one night with ants!! Is it supposed to do this??? I think the last pic. might be the best. (photos taken with my ipad 2 people...not the best quality)

What advice do you have??? Hahahaha!!! This one might be hopeless.

Here are some random funny photos I had just stored in my ipad...

Yes, I took this pic while driving (well, I obviously wasn't driving) the 10 east.

And WOW...indeed...what a display of (phallic) manhood...I think he's a big boy now, although, he can barely reach those handles...LOL!

This next picture is a doozy! While my sister was down a few months ago, she found out that she had fluid in her lungs and was forced to stay in the hospital out here. The hospital food is never satisfying so I decided to go to the store close by...I had no idea I was going to get to shop for food...AND...worship a shrine at the same time...LOL!!! This is just wrong people!!!!! Jesus is def. keeping a close watch on those cases of drinks and those indoor house plants...

AND YES, this was the first display as you walked into the front of the store!!! Maybe their running a drug cartel out of this chain (Fry's Food People). And if the Ginormous statue was not enough, they have hung up a large picture to the right of the statue as well...
hahahahahahahahaha!!!

The next two are of my Bella-Roo kitty. She loves my shoes, but she does not love dresses...hehehehehe

She refused to move until I removed the dress...LOL!!!

Don't poop out on me yet...I'm only halfway done with this posty-post...

Short & to the point tutorial...
How to add the linky signature to your comments...

I have decided to do a small tutorial once a week to save all of you the hassle of having to try and find these solutions...hope this helps a few of you.

Ever wonder how blogger's add that cute little link under their name to link back to their blog??? If you did, so did I...hehehe

Directions:

Copy and past this code into a word doc or another place where you can edit it. I always use Microsoft Onenote for my code

<a href="YOUR BLOG URL LINK HERE">THE NAME YOU WANT TO APPEAR HERE</a>

Highlight the text in between the quotations (do not highlight the quotation marks) and paste or type your blog URL into the space between the quotations with no extra spaces.

<a href="YOUR BLOG URL LINK HERE">THE NAME YOU WANT TO APPEAR HERE</a>

LIKE THIS

<a href=" http://the3amteacher.blogspot.com/ ">THE NAME YOU WANT TO APPEAR HERE</a>

Now, highlight the text that says, "The name you want to appear here", and type the text you want to appear (you can include spaces like I did below between each word):

<a href="YOUR BLOG URL LINK HERE">THE NAME YOU WANT TO APPEAR HERE</a>

<a href="YOUR BLOG URL LINK HERE">The 3AM Teacher</a>

Now you have a complete code that you can copy and paste into your comments on other blogs as well as on TPT questions and replies...hope this makes sense...hehehe

I am almost finished with my money set (I told you I am on a roll this week) and I should be finished in the wee hours (-;

My coins are coming out pretty well!!

Enjoy the freebies!!

  1. hey! I think I have seen that guy on the 10 before! LOL! I think he needs smaller handles.

The ant farm no clue... I managed to kill the ants within a day. I was told it was too hot for them and they did not adjust well. Yes - 80 degrees is too hot for them to be traveling. I was told to order ants in Dec!

    1. I don't mind at all!! The more we offer the help, the more people will actually get the help...hehehe

It is a simple tutorial. I am going to put together a nicer tutorial on how to create a button and use the code that people can copy...

A little more in depth, but still doable (=

  3. I know someone who used one of those ant farms before and I don't remeber them having the gel shrink up. The ants made tunnels in the gel and there wasn't fog, so no I don't think that's normal. We are on break but I can ask her if you don't get a reply before then!

Hope you have a wonderful weekend!

Down the Learning Road (THanks for the tutorial! I've been wondering how to do that. Is there a way to make it automatically add the signature??? Probably not but it's worth a shot, lol)

    1. I do not know that one yet...but I would LOVE for a way to do that. I have my Onenote open all the time and I keep my code in there. When/if I find out if there is a way to automatically add it, I will let you know. We might just have a chance...I am thinking that there should be a way to add the code to our public profile so that it adds it when we post comments...I will look into this...

About the ants...well, they seem to be digging - so I will just watch and wait..

  5. Oh goodness, your post made me laugh!

I am so excited to see the coin clipart., and I have noon idea what is going on with the ants!

Is there anything we can do to back Scrappin' Doodles up int this thing? Get a huge number of teachers to sign a petition? After all, surely we are a huge part of the Seuss market, and clearly we are using these items to actually promote the books to thousands of kids and families, collectively...

Anyway! Thanks for making me laugh today!

  8. I can't wait for the coin graphics! Our next math unit is on time and money. .. I wish I could help with the ant farm, but I've not had one yet. With three boys in the house, I'm sure we're bound to have one sometime. Good luck!

    Have a great weekend!

  9. I've used these ant farms while learning about insects once before and the gel did shrink from the sides like yours. It didn't really impact it at all because the ants did end up chewing down the sides and making heaps of tunnels throughout the actual gel. It ended up looking really good! BTW, they send out big ants with large mandibles so they are able to chew out the tunnels faster. I didn't have to send away for ants - big ones like these are pretty typical here in Australia and I was able to find some in a garden at school! I've never actually thought of them as big!

  15. Almost forgot. The ant farm. I had one of those with gel but not a fancy shmancy light. The gel didn't shrink up so yours might be defective. Can you return it? Also, my ants weren't huge like yours. I had it one my desk at school for the kiddos to see and oh and ah over, but next thing I knew the ants had crawled out the teeny tiny air hole and were all over my desk! Oh what fun that was. I'd try to take it back or exchange it. Have you had it a long time and the gel is old/dehydrated or something?

    1. Well, the ants are doing okay so far and it was only $20. We bought it online, so it wouldn't be worth the hassle of returning it. The ants have made a small tunnel today.

      Thanks for the suggestion though (-;

  16. Ah, this post comes at a perfect time! Just ask my dear Jeff, I have been wondering aloud for about a week, "How come I can't link to my blog in the comment box? Look! All these other bloggers know how to do it. Hmph." He used to offer some words or shrug but has since quit responding. haha. Thanks for the info and here goes the test drive:
